About One Book One Community

For the past ten years, East Baton Rouge Parish Library has organized the One Book One Community project, which invites area residents to read the same book and take part in a series of free, public events discussing, exploring, and celebrating the book. With partners/sponsors Forum 35 and Up Alliance, EBRPL presents a series of events relating to the chosen novel throughout the spring in order to give participants as many opportunities as possible to engage with the book.

Forum 35’s involvement with One Book One Community aligns wholly with our mission at Forum 35, to help improve Baton Rouge. It also supports our 3 core pillars; Arts and Culture, Leadership, and Cultural Diversity.

Program Overview

The One Book One Community initiative aims to use a common and compelling reading experience to:

1. inspire thought-provoking dialogue among readers

2. to increase visibility of issues relevant to the community

3. to raise awareness of literacy issues within our area.

The One Book One Community program is a partnership of several non-profit agencies within the Baton Rouge area. Hosted by East Baton Rouge Parish Library, Forum 35, Up Alliance and other organizations support the 2-3 month long community-wide program with events, outreach and awareness.
