Series to tackle topics on history and policies of racism in the community

BATON ROUGE, LA. (June 23, 2020) – Forum 225 today announced registration is open to the public for a free, virtual three-part series on educating the community on racism in the region to take place July 1, July 8, and July 15. Registration is available at forum225.org.

The three topics covered will be “The History of Institutional Racism in Baton Rouge and Louisiana” with speakers Dr. Jhacova Williams and Chris Tyson, “The History and Impact of Protest in Baton Rouge and Louisiana” with Dr. Lori Latrice Martin, and “Dismantling Systems of Racism in Baton Rouge” with Myra Richardson, Rev. Alexis Anderson, and panel moderator Maxine Crump. More panelists will be announced at a later date.

“As our community seeks to better understand the racial injustice infused into our own city, we at Forum 225, find it is our responsibility to educate our members, the future leaders of our community, on these issues,” said Neva Butkus, Forum 225 president. “We know this only scratches the surface of the work that needs to be done within our community, but we hope it will bring on important discussions within our organization and with fellow community members.”

Event registration is available at forum225.org. Each event will take place from 5:30 -7 p.m. virtually on its respective date.
