Forum 35’s tenth annual Art Melt—the largest multi-media, juried art exhibit in the state of Louisiana—opens at 5 p.m. on July 20, 2013 at Capitol Park Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. From the breathtaking exhibit to the outdoor stage, food truck lineup and arts marketplace, Art melt showcases artistic, musical and culinary talent from across the state.

Want an opportunity to purchase the exhibited works first and also meet the artists? That’s what the preview party is for! Taking place Friday, July 19, 2013 at 7 p.m., the Art Melt preview party allows art enthusiasts and patrons to connect with Louisiana artists as they enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres by The Edible Event, an open bar, and live music by Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Moreover, preview party attendees are the first to learn who this year’s Art Melt winners are. Tickets are available for purchase at, or you can simply click here.

One local, one regional and one national juror, all with ample curatorial experience, facilitate the art competition through a blind judging. During this year’s call for artwork, 619 pieces were submitted and 69 were selected for the final exhibition, which will hang in the Capitol Park Museum for six weeks following the festival on Saturday. This year’s jurors are as follows:

·         Jordana Pomeroy, executive director of the LSU Museum of Art in Baton Rouge, LA

·         Susan H. Edwards, executive director and CEO of the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, TN

·         Jo-Anne Birnie Danzker, executive director and CEO of the Frye Museum in Seattle, WA

The jurors choose a first, second and third place winner, who are awarded with cash prizes ranging from $2,000 to $500; in addition, each juror selects an honorable mention. Ann Connelly Fine Arts Gallery presents an artist with the Ann Connelly Award. Forum 35’s Art Melt committee chooses the Forum 35 Award winner. Forum 35’s Art Melt Advisory Board chose Mignon Faget to be this year’s annual Art Melt Louisiana Art Legend Award. Country Roads Magazine facilitates the Art Melt People’s Choice Award.

Join us for a conversation on the recent revival of public art, in terms of intrigue as well as pursuit. How do we experience art in a private collection versus a public space? Discussion will span the evolution of public artwork—from community involvement to technology—to private collections—from artistic barriers to artists’ ownership. Panel begins at 5:30 PM in the Capitol Park Museum.

As soon as Art Melt begins, so does the live music. The Mockler Beverage stage, situated at the corner of 4th Street and Spanish Town Road, will feature performances by The Bedlamville Triflers, Captain Green, Hazy Ray and The Scorseses.

Presented by the Boo Grigsby Foundation, the cultural performance stage has become a favorite among Art Melters. This shaded spot beneath the Capitol Park Museum atrium will boast a variety of artistic expression, from an acoustic set by Mary Broussard and Sweet LaLa, to a dance ensemble by Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre and a theatre performance by Swine Palace.

The 10th annual Art Melt would not be possible without the generous support of its community sponsors, which include Launch Media, The Boo Grigsby Foundation, Capital Park Museum, Louisiana Technology Park, Kean Miller, Louisiana Lottery, Tipton Associates and Jones Walker.

We would also like to thank our in-kind sponsors: WAFB, DIG Magazine, Ann Connelly Fine Art Gallery, Hotel Indigo, Country Roads Magazine, Yelp!, Catalyst Event Solutions, Lamar Advertising, The Edible Event and Mark Bienvenu Photography
