August Service Member of the Month Spotlight: Daryl Guess

Posted By Amy Cimo, Emersyn Consulting, Monday, August 20, 2018

As one of Forum 35’s core pillars, Service is important to us. We’re dedicated to giving back and improving Baton Rouge through service projects and volunteer opportunities. Each month, we feature an actively involved Service Committee member who goes above and beyond and is committed to making a larger impact on our community.

This month we sat down with Daryl Guess of Entergy. Daryl has been a member of Forum 35 for 1 year and has been a very active member of the Service Committee. We asked Daryl to tell us a bit more about why he chose to be involved with Forum 35.

I joined Forum 35 in August of 2017 after hearing about the Public Education Project and volunteering at one of local schools. Helping schools provide education to students is extremely important to me. The education I received growing up has definitely changed my life by providing me the means to both explore the country and to live an exciting life while also being able to give back to others around me without having to worry if I can afford to or not. I want to help others have the opportunity to be able to provide for themselves and to give back to the community around them.

I'm from the small town of Union, MS (approximately 2000 people.) Moving to Baton Rouge has given me ample opportunity to enjoy my time, whether it's by going to concerts or festivals, enjoying the delicious food in the area, or playing in the many recreational sports leagues such as Mango's volleyball league.

I moved to Baton Rouge from Mississippi State University around 3 years ago to start working at the Nuclear Power Plant outside of St Francisville. My goal growing up was to be able to make power for people to live with, and I'm able to do that every day as an engineer there.

As a member of Forum 35, I definitely want to continue to build relationships with the various other members, so I can have more diverse opportunities in the future in both the community service and the professional development aspect that the organization provides.
