Service Member of the Month Spotlight: Frances Arledge

Posted By Service Committee, Wednesday, July 25, 2018

As one of Forum 35’s core pillars, Service is important to us. We’re dedicated to giving back and improving Baton Rouge through service projects and volunteer opportunities. Each month, we feature an actively involved Service Committee member who goes above and beyond and is committed to making a larger impact on our community.

This month we sat down with Frances Arledge of Louisiana Hospital Association. After joining Forum 35, Frances dove right into her first service project when we partnered with Habitat for Humanity in June. She braved the heat for 7 hours to help paint and clean houses in the final stages of construction. Keep reading to learn more about Frances and how she feels about service and the community.

When did you join Forum 35?

I joined in March of this year but didn’t attend my first event until the beginning of June. (Life gets busy sometimes!)

Why did you choose to get involved with Service?

One of the things I enjoy the most about my career is the rewarding feeling that I’m helping my community and state. The service committee of Forum 35 and its various projects has allowed me to carry that into my personal life too.

What has been your favorite thing about Forum and the Service Committee since joining?

My favorite part about Forum and the Service Committee is the welcoming nature of the members and the “give what you can, when you can” mentality. No project seems too large or small when you’re working alongside others who have a positive attitude about the purpose.

Where is your hometown and how did you end up in Baton Rouge?

I grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina. I came to LSU for college, returned to North Carolina for graduate school and moved back to BR to find work after completing my Master’s degree.

What's your favorite thing about Baton Rouge?

The pace of life and that it’s wedged right between Lafayette and New Orleans. It’s easy to take advantage of the whole range of South Louisiana culture and cuisine!

Tell us a little about your profession and what you do.

I am the Project Manager for the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) Grant at the Louisiana Hospital Association Research and Education Foundation (LHAREF.) The Louisiana Department of Health receives a federal award each year to support hospital and healthcare system preparedness for disasters. They partner with the LHAREF to execute preparedness contracts and complete projects to support readiness for the adverse impacts that disasters have on citizens and our health and medical infrastructure. Additionally, when there is a disaster, I support response at the state emergency operations center.

Do you have any hobbies?

Yoglates and golf! Two years ago I signed up for an LSU Leisure Course to learn to play golf. I have really enjoyed learning the game and discovering that it’s more mental than physical. Every year I look forward to playing in the Woman’s Victory Open Golf Tournament, hosted by Woman’s Hospital Foundation, with some incredible ladies to support a wonderful cause. I recently made a hole-in-one playing golf on Bald Head Island, North Carolina!

What are you most looking forward to while being a part of Forum 35?

In joining Forum 35, I’m most looking forward to the networking and meeting others with similar interests of making a difference in our community. Today, I believe young adults get so lost in the transition into adulthood (go to college, get a job, buy a car and house, etc.) that taking the initiative to drive communities forward as the next growing generation gets lost. Forum 35 brings that back to the surface!
