Service Member of the Month Spotlight: Matthew Lawson

As one of Forum 35’s core pillars, Service is important to us. We’re dedicated to giving back and improving Baton Rouge through service projects and volunteer opportunities. Each month, we feature an actively involved Service Committee member who goes above and beyond and is committed to making a larger impact on our community.

This month we sat down with Matthew Lawson of Supreme Lending. After joining Forum 35, Matthew jumped into Service for the opportunity to help those in need around within our community. He stepped up recently and helped lead a St. Vincent de Paul lunch service when our regular volunteers could not be there. Keep reading to learn more about Matthew and what he loves about Baton Rouge and Forum 35.

When did you join Forum 35?

I joined when I heard about Forum 35 a year ago from a colleague.

Why did you choose to get involved with Service?

I chose to get involved with the Service Committee because I wanted to give back to the community and those in need.

What has been your favorite thing about Forum 35 since joining?

My favorite thing about Forum has been having the opportunity to connect with other young professionals. While we are building business connections, we are also building lasting friendships along the way.

Where is your hometown? How did you end up in Baton Rouge?

I am from Glenmora, Louisiana. I worked in banking for 9 years prior to lending. My career in banking moved me from Alexandria to Lafayette and then here to Baton Rouge.

What's your favorite thing about Baton Rouge?

My favorite thing about Baton Rouge is that you never meet a stranger… and let’s not forget about the awesome food!

Tell us a little about your profession and what you do.

I am a Licensed Mortgage Loan Officer at Supreme Lending. Loan origination is not just about taking an application and closing the loan. I help educate my clients on their credit scores, the loan process, and what loan programs are available to them. This allows my clients to make informed decisions while building trust and rapport.

Do you have any hobbies?

I enjoy spending quality time with friends, family and my two dogs.

What are you most looking forward to while being a part of Forum 35?  (Or what do you hope to gain/accomplish by being a part of Forum 35?)

While being in Forum35, I am most looking forward to the opportunity to give back to the community as we grow with it.
